Frequently asked questions about domestic abuse protection

What counts as domestic abuse?

Domestic abuse includes physical violence, threats, harassment, controlling or coercive behaviour, financial abuse, and emotional or psychological harm.

Can I get an urgent court order?

Yes. In urgent cases, applications can be made to the court immediately, including without notice to the other party.

Do I need a solicitor for a non-molestation order?

While it is possible to apply yourself, legal representation is strongly recommended due to the seriousness and consequences of these orders.
